Sara Beth Pearson

American soprano Sara Beth Pearson made her solo debut with The Metropolitan Opera in its 2012 production of Manon, part of The Met: Live in HD series. She was subsequently invited to return as a soloist in La Rondine and Les Dialogues des Carmelites. Ms. Pearson was featured in the inaugural season of the Maryland Lyric Opera as Nedda in Pagliacci, and debuted her Mimì as part of Crested Butte Music Festival’s production of La Bohème. 2015 marked her European debut, in the title role of Puccini’s Suor Angelica at the Trentino Music Festival in Italy, and the following year she won Third Prize at the Concurso Internacional de Canto Lírico in Trujillo, Perú. Ms. Pearson’s powerful and rich tone has led her to expand her repertoire into the dramatic fach, and last season featured her Wagnerian debut singing the Liebestod from Tristan und Isolde with Litha Symphony Orchestra. Next, she takes on Santuzza in Regina Opera’s production of Cavallaria Rusticana.

Ms. Pearson’s recent appearances include Nella in Gianni Schicchi and Micaëla in highlights of Carmen with On Site Opera, and the Second Soprano (Vieni t’affretta) in Terence McNally’s play Master Class at The CENTER for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck. A favorite of New Rochelle Opera, her credits with the company include Magnolia Hawkes in Showboat, Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly, Leonora in Trovatore, and Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus, and she was slated to perform the title role in Tosca before it was cancelled due to the pandemic. Other engagements include Salomé in Hérodiade and Leonora in La forza del destino with New Amsterdam Opera, Lia in L’enfant prodigue with Lyric Opera Baltimore, and Anna in Puccini’s Le Villi with Garden State Opera. Additional roles include the title roles of Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah and Tobias Picker’s Emmeline, Lucy in Thomas Pasatieri’s Hotel Casablanca, Paolina in Donizetti’s Poliuto, and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni.

On the concert stage, Ms. Pearson has performed Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Allentown Symphony Orchestra, Ravel’s Shéhérazade with Adelphi Orchestra, Mozart’s Exultate Jubilate with the Bergen Sinfonia, Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915 with The Baltimore Sinfonietta, and Mendelssohn’s Wer nur den lieben Gott läßt Walden and “Hear My Prayer” with the Prince George’s Choral Society. She has starred in operatic and operetta concerts with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, the Bergen Sinfonia Orchestra, Annapolis Symphony, Annapolis Choral Society, and Maryland Concert Opera.

A graduate of the Peabody Conservatory where she studied with Stanley Cornett, Ms. Pearson made numerous appearances with Baltimore Opera, Annapolis Opera and Washington National Opera. She was a young artist in the Britten Pears Programme and further honed her craft in the private studio of Diana Soviero.
