This is a letter of recommendation for Laura Virella, a mezzo-soprano of exceptional vocal and acting ability. In the summer of 2017, Ms. Virella gave a sexy and powerful performance in the title role of my opera Frida with the Long Beach Opera. She was equally adept with the scenes of terror and with the many scenes of comedy. Her voice is warm and flexible; she is obviously an artist of great intelligence; she is gifted in languages; and she creates a warm and engaging presence both on and off-stage. It would be my pleasure to work with Ms. Virella again. I predict a distinguished future for her, and I would be glad to discuss her fine work further with anyone who requests additional information.
