Conductor Elio Orciuolo studied piano, composition, and orchestral conducting with M. Gusella, D. Renzetti, G. Serembe,N. Samale, A.Guadagno and with I. Gillian at Mozarteum in Salzburg as well as Choir Conducting with R. Gandolfi. He had been Associated Conductor from 2000 to 2001 of Anton Guadagno.

In 1988, he dedicated himself to Operatic Productions collaborating with the Petruzzelli Theatre in Bari as assistant conductor and Chorus Master from 1991 to 2006 . Since then, he collaborated with Internationally renowned musicians such as J.Aragall; B.Baglioni; A.Bocelli; R.Bruson (Dvd Tosca nel 2002); J.Carreras; G.Cecchele; C.Colombara; E.Dara; R.De Simone; G.De Tommasi; D.Dessì; M.Lajambra; D.Livermore; C.Merritt; P.Maestrini; P.Montarsolo; N. Martinucci; F.Patanè; S.Poda; K.Ricciarelli; G.Strehler; F.Trevisan; F.Zeffirelli, among others. In 2000, he started a brilliant career which had led him to conduct some of the most prestigious orchestras in Italy and abroad, popular opera and symphonic repertoire. In the same year he conducted at Palm Beach Opera Florida (USA): “Rigoletto” e “Un ballo in maschera”, with great success. In 2002, “Aida”, with impressive and exciting scenery of  Piramidi di Giza – Cairo.

From 2001 to 2012 he continuously collaborated with Opera Catalunya – Barcelona, where he had personal success conducting acclaimed productions of “Rigoletto”, “L’Italiana in Algeri”, “ La Forza del Destino”, “ Nabucco”, “ Tosca”, “Norma”, “Macbeth”, “La Traviata”, “Madama Butterfly”, “Trovatore”, “Carmen”. “Don Carlo” al Palau de la Musica – Barcellona, invited by  tenor Jaume Aragall.

In the same year of 2001, in South Korea, he successfully conducted “L’Elisir d’amore” at the Sejong Theatre – Seoul with the Seoul Symphony Orchestra and later at the Arts Center – Seoul for an acclaimed production of “Tosca”. Moreover, with Seoul Symphony Orchestra, he also directed a new production of Mozart’s “ Così fan tutte”, followed by a tournée in China and Indonesia with the Eastern Philharmonic Orchestra.

In 2004, he started a successful collaboration with Cairo Opera House conducting “Un Ballo in Maschera”, “Aida” and then in 2011 “L’Elisir d’Amore” at the Teatro Sayed Derwish -Alexandria. That same year he also conducted “Cavalleria Rusticana” and “Mese Mariano ” at the Festival dedicated to the composer “Umberto Giordano”.

In June 2005, he made his debut in Portugal conducting “La Fille du Regiment” at the Festival Rota dos Monumentos – Cascais co-produced by the Teatro  São Carlos – Lisbon. Afetr that “Tosca” for the Cap Roig Festival – Costa  Brava invited by Tenor Jose Carreras. At the “National Teatre of Taipei” – Taiwan he conducted, with outstanding critic reviews, “Otello” by G. Verdi. Then in 2007, he conducted “Ernani” and “Requiem” by G. Verdi for Young Singers Metropolitan Foundation – New York .

In summer 2007 he was the Artistic Director of  Festival “Calabria all’Opera” – a project of Regione Calabria with EU, conducting extracts from Carmen Aida e Cavalleria Rusticana. The DVD records are available.

In July of 2011, he was invited to the Operatic Festival of Castelgrande – Bellinzona where he conducted a new production of “La Traviata”.

In 2012, he conducted “Aida” for Opera Catalunya. In the same year, he was the Artistic Director of the Festival dell’Opera Italiana e del Mediterraneo of Trani conducting “La Traviata”. Again “La Traviata” in same year for Summer Festival of Luglio Musicale Trapanese in Trapani, Sicily.

In 2013, he was appointed Artistic Director of the Panama Opera Foundation. Among many organized operatic events, the first performance in Panama of “Aida” by G. Verdi, for the bicentenary of Verdi in 2013, should be highlighted.   In the same year, he was Nominated Music Director for the establishment of the Italo-Panamanian Youth Orchestra , with the support of National Government and the cooperation of the Conservatory of  “Santa Cecilia” in Rome.

In 2013, with the great success he conducted the world premiere of the Opera “Falcone and Borsellino-ovvero il muro dei martiri” by Antonio Fortunato at the Teatro G. Verdi – Pisa then performed in November 2017 in Sicily for Luglio Musicale Trapanese.

In 2014, he returns to Teatro G. Verdi – Pisa for a successful production of  “Andrea Chenier”. After that , he debuted with the National Theater of San Jose – Costa Rica at a triumphant production of “Nabucco” with bariton C.Almaguer and bass C.Colombara.

The year 2015 marks his debut in in Kyoto, Japan with an acclaimed production of “Pagliacci”. Triumphal return to South Korea in 2016 at the Seoul Art  Center for a tour of concerts at the Korea International Music Festival.

In 2017 he leaves the Orquesta Juvenil Italo-Panamanian to take charge of    artistic and musical direction of Erasmus Youth Orchestra. The youth orchestra debuts on the occasion of the Festival of Europe scheduled in Florence in May and, after that, in October in Strasbourg for a concert at the European Parliament. Also in 2017, he collaborates with the Hong Kong Opera for a production of G. Verdi’s Aida and with the Luglio Musicale Trapanese for a new production of the Opera “Falcone e Borsellino “ the wall of the martyrs” by the composer Antonio Fortunato.

2018 marks the return to the USA with an acclaimed production of Carmen by G.Bizet at the Miami Lyric Opera. Between 2017 and 2019 he  permanently collaborates for Symphonic Season of Teatro Petruzzelli of Bari and in various concerts and tours with the Erasmus Youth Orchestra, among which the prestigious event at the Auditorium “Parco della Musica” in Rome on December 5, 2019.

In 2018, he also starts a steady collaboration with MTM Opera Company in Hong Kong for which he edited a reduction, arrangement and transcription of Bizet’s Opera Carmen for small Orchestra Ensemble scheduled in November 2019. In same year he was appointed artistic and music director of MTM Opera Company.

He participated in various events among others: Verdi “Requiem”, organized by Raidue and Nippon TV. This performance at the Rome Vatican was broadcast live worldwide on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Epiphany Concert broadcast on RAI UNO from the Monastery of Santa Chiara in Naples with the extraordinary participation of tenor Andrea Bocelli. Sala Nervi in Vatican invited him once more as a guest in presence of Pope John Paul II on the occasion of the beatification of Padre Pio from Pietrelcina, world Premiere of “Missa pro beatification” broadcast on RAIUNO. Futhermore, he participated in the world premiere of the Cantata “Populorum Progressio” by Roberto de Simone.

He recorded a CD for Digivox of the “ Petite Messe Solennelle “by G.Rossini with the Choir of the Teatro Petruzzelli of Bari and the rare Messa di Gloria by G. Rossini with the ICO Orchestra of the Province of Bari and the Teatro Petruzzelli of Bari Choir. He directed a live performance on DVD of W.A. Mozart’s “Coronation Mass” and “Vesperae Solemnes de Confessore “, with the Prague Chamber Orchestra and a DVD of Tosca  with Francesca Patanè, Jose Cura, and Renato Bruson.

He was the Artistic Consultant at the Petruzzelli Theatre of Bari in 1997/1998 and from 2004 to 2005. He was the Principal Guest Conductor at the Opera Catalunya in Sabadell in 2001-2012. From September 2012 to 2014 he was the  Artistic Director of Foundacion Opera Panama.

Currently, Elio Orciuolo is the Artistic Director of the Opera of Panama and the Project Opera Master Class. He is also the Music and Artistic Director of Erasmus Youth Orchestra.

Maestro Orciuolo coordinates and participates intensely in Master Classes, mainly in Spain, Russia, Italy, USA, Costa Rica, Colombia, Korea, and China. Since 2017, he has been the Artistic and Musical Director of Erasmus Youth Orchestra

He is intensively working in China as master classes teacher for the Shenyang Conservatory of music and Shanghai University of Music, as well as with Hong Kong Young Artist Program and with the Shangai Philharmonic Orchestra  as the conductor for New Year’s Concert in 2014.

 Along with that, Elio Orciuolo is a professor at Conservatorio di Musica N.Rota di Monopoli.
